7 - Pin trailer plug???
7 - Pin trailer plug???
Trying to plug in 7 - pin trailer plug into my new 2019 F250. The plug seems really loose. To the point that it does not always make a good contact. Thinking wrapping some electrical tape around plug to make it fit more secure.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Welcome to the club. I sure am glad I'm not the only one this has happened to. Is happening I should say. When I lift the cap, the cord just falls out. Literally, it falls out. No fit at all. I mentioned it here, and on the camping sites, and no one said anything about having the same issue. Some tape was one of the suggestions. I used a zip tie on my last (which was my first) trip out, and it worked good, but zip tieing it and cutting the zip tie every time I hook up is not an option. I will try the tape. But I really want a fix, not a bandaid. In the meantime, let me know if you try it and how it works.
On my enclosed cargo trailer, the plug on the trailer is shorter than a normal one and I have the same issue. On my camper trailer the plug fits ok. It’s not tight but I haven’t had an issue with contact. It seems the stopper on the trucks 7pin harness is set too far back. I will probably change out the end on my cargo trailer by buying a few different ends to try out before I swap them over. I’ll return the unused ones. I should also mention that I changed my 7/4pin adapter on the truck to the camera/7 pin adapter after having the dreaded trailer disconnected/connected messages pop up due to water intrusion in the adapter. Added dielectric grease and put the camera one on. The factory 7/4 pin one is not picked with dielectric grease so if I were you, I’d unplug it from the back on pack it full of grease. Could save you a headache later on.
I also switched to the 7-pin/camera plug, and guess what? It was actually a little looser. Unbelievable. I am going to take my original 7/4 pin to an RV place and see how a replacement cord fits.
I had no issue with the in bed plug I put in my 2011. I don't think I ever used the bumper plug on that truck. But anyway, I'll try to update as I play with this. If someone comes up with a solution, please post.

Are you positive you are pushing it all the way in? I plug in several different plugs (different campers), both TT's and 5er's. If I don't get it pushed all the way in it does feel loose. Most times I can feel it seat, but sometimes it's kind of mushy feeling.
I push it in all the way then try to twist it side to side. If it is seated it won't twist, unseated will turn quite a bit in spite of the keyway. Once in, I let the spring loaded cap block the tab, then give it a tug to ensure it is locked in.
Never had one pull or fall out.

Had problems with "lost trailer connection" messages on ours. Ended up replacing the one year old Airstream OEM cable end with a better fitting Pollack one. Problem solved.
