I was hoping some one could help with decoding the vin on my truck. It is a Mercury 100. I believe it is a 1963. I was told Mercury was only built in Canada.
Thanks for helping out with this. It is currently a short box step side. My dad and I shortened the frame and put the step side box on it in 1977. My uncle painted it for me at the time. This was my first vehicle. Over the years I thought about the truck but thought it probably got crushed some where along the line. Then one day I as at an auction sale in the area and a fellow I knew told me he had my old truck. I went and looked at it and bought it back. My grandson and I are currently rebuilding it. I was told that it was not a 63 so I looked into it but could not find anything on the Mercury's. Thanks again for your help.
How cool. That pinstriping is neat and screams 70's. That's neat that you were able to get it back, and best of all you get to share the build you did with your dad with your grandson. I try to include my oldest grandson with garage and car projects as much as I can. I found my first car about a year and a half ago. It was a 66 Chevelle. I had that car for 25 years. I had back halfed it and it was stuffed with 21.50" x 32" mickey's and a full cage and mostly all fiberglass. It took two owners since me to finally bring it to completion. It's been in a couple of magazines and is currently for sale. Bummer though, I can't afford to by it back now. It's on craigslist currently for $60 grand. It's so cool to see it finished, it kinda makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
Ahhh, P.R. We used to go up there for Motocross Races @ the Ag Grounds up on the Hill. That was around 1977 thru the early eighties, when my lil bro was racing. And after I moved to Edmonton, a fellow I became friends with down here, but was originally from D.C......we went up to P.R. several times to drag race his Nova back when they were allowed to race on the airstrip @ the Shell Plant.
I'm pretty sure we graduated the same year (1979 for me), and if we started naming names, probably know a few of the same people.
So you are a bit of a gear head as well. I bracket raced for about 7 years. During that time I put together an 81 camaro that ran low 12's, and two 71 Chevelles. One ran low 12's and one was high 11's. One Chevelle and the Camaro were street legal no cages. I could jump a beer can with the left front with one Chevelle. The racing was hard on a heavy car and the frame started cracking and the rear quarters were buckling so I pulled out all the go fast gear, drove it for a while until someone came along that wanted it more than I did.
Small world. I raced at the Shell strip for years, and a few times at Fort St John and Edmonton. I ran a white 81 Camaro, white 70 Chevelle and a Back 71 Chevelle.
Well, so much for that plan, looks like being as you just signed up, no PM's for you (yet).
And I can't even tell you what the probation period is......
So, there was no racing in P.R. (or Fairview) when I left G.P., but I have raced at three different locations around Dawson Creek,(all on blocked off roads) and at Ft. St. John, but this was back when they closed the road that went to the airport from the south, not like the Cadillac setup they have now, IHRA Sanctioned, permanent timing tower, etc.
AND, we were working towards racing in GP when I left, but it took quite a few years, and now they run DRAGWARS there, which has amazing turnouts!
Welcome to FTE, 63merc, nice to have you here. Pretty cool that you got your truck back. My Mercury was a family truck too, I happened upon it by accident at my Wife's Grandpa's acreage. Can't wait to see more pics as your project gets going.
