Ok, compared to most, im pretty dense on the terms, so i know ypu dont mean rest and recouperate, so what is R&R?
I think it means "Remove and Replace". I found a link to a how-to thread @cleatus12r put together, and many on the forum contributed to. [LINK] Cody's pics are gone, but others have added some illustrations further down the thread.
I never got to this maintenance - had just purchased the o-ring kit from Riffraff when I decided to sell the rig. It doesn't look like too bad a job to tackle.
So, opinions. Fords kit is (seemingly) steel, orings and gaskets, looks around 225$
Dorman has an aluminum housing w/oring-gaskets about 160
And then a large online retailer is promoting a stainless, with the orings and gaskets for 140...
So as far as the oil cooler goes, anyone think it will matter one way or the other? Id prefer not doing this twice... lol
Typically all that is needed to get the oil cooler back into shape is the 4 o-rings and 2 gaskets. Unless the tube or brackets are damaged in some way, which is uncommon.
You can get the cheaper kits from the parts stores that are made by FelPro or whatever, but they seem to leak again after a few years instead of a couple of decades.
Welp..... finally got a flush done, additives, drove it, blah blah.... got home tonight, opened the valve up front, and then squirreled under with my bad self equiped with a 1/2 to 3/8 to 1/4 drive.... i was gonna pop that drivers side block drain right off.... nope. Sheared the 1/4 drive off flush, dudnt even tweak the bolt. And i had already hit it with pb blaster... soooo i have that to undo. At least i parked on an incline, so i disconnected the lower water pump hose... drained it that way. Dark gray water. So now i have the final water and drive to verify that its leaking oil into the coolant, and not just 250k worth of filth
