Hey Boneskes what's your opinion on buying a used 5R110? Reason I asking all these questions is part of me feels like if I buy a low miles used trans I'll be ok but on the other hand you never really know how that other truck was treated. But it's also expensive to buy a new one like a warren stock plus trans.

You need to do what you’re comfortable with, rather then price.

One thing you HAVE to do with any new or used transmission if you want it to live more than a short time.
You must replace the oil to air cooler as you can't flush that one well enough to clean it. You next must
flush the lines and the oil to coolant cooler inside the radiator.

Ford reman transmission come with two years and are good. They also come full of fluid. So your not having
to go out and buy more than a few quarts to top the system off. They also come with a new oil to air cooler.

If your not going to do any upgrades to the transmission I would stick with the one from Ford.
I have broke a transmission in the past and went with the Ford reman as the replacement and
have been very happy with it.

Any body here ever heard of street smart transmission. From what I've read there a wholesaler transmission company. Offering remanufactured 5R110 trans for $2500.00 with torque converter. Free shipping, No core charge, 3year/unlimited mileage warranty on parts and labor. Does this sound to good to be true????

Personally I would buy from a reputable local yard even if it was more money. When you deal locally it is easier to handle problems face to face and local reputation means everything. I won't use an LKQ pick and pull for mechanical parts like engines or transmissions, I don't want to lay on the ground pulling an engine or transmission for a day and find out it is no good. LKQ IMO is great for body and interior parts.

Agreed. With LKQ they dismantle and put it on the shelf. Occasionally they will have images of the vehicle it came out of so you can check its use and modifications, but I still prefer local. I don't have an issue getting a starter or alternator, or as stated, body parts, as long as shipping isn't excessive. And that's another reason for engines, trans, and axles to come from local.

Here is my LKQ online experience. My wife's 2018 Fusion was bumped in a parking deck, hit and run on the RR door. The insurance company calls hit and runs collisions and go against you. The car had 8000 miles on it at the time. Body shops wanted to blend the whole side of the car and the repair was going to be $1200. The color is called Blue but it is a new Ford color so it had to come off of a 2018 and it was during the 2018 model year. I decided to find a door the same color. LKQ had a door in Kansas, came off of a car damaged in transit to the dealer. I spent close to $800 for it and the shipping to my buddy's shop.
The door arrived, fairly well packaged but had a metal strap around it, window sticker still on it. The door installed fine but when they removed the door panel (did not come with door) they damaged the actuator cable. I has to swap the actuator over from the old door. The door also had a couple of dings in it and scuffs from the strap. I called LKQ and they said basically s%$# happens and they can't do anything about it.
I was able to get most of the scuffs off of it and the paint matches so overall it was the best way to do it but I would have preferred to buy it locally.

I agree with the above, not only do you sometimes end up getting screwed, you end up with the wrong parts. Had that happen to me and maybe it's just the folks in my area, but they are hard to get on the phone. If you have time and need body parts, call them. However if you need an engine or transmission, save your time and money. Shops around me don't use them and use rebuilders before they'll use LKQ for an engine or transmission.

Thumbs down Not recommended Diesel Redemption from IL.

They do not fully disclose what they are selling, Do not tell you it has 1000s of idle hours. Personally I purchased an engine from them, it turned out to be a bad motor, They do not have a replacement so they want to only supply a head gasket and nothing else. We have been battling back and forth for 3 months and my truck is still broke. they will not cover shipping on the replacement if they had one which is 700 each way, Plus I am out $4000 for R&R of engine twice. Communication is very slow if they answer at all, Use at your own risk. I do not think they should be in business at all, I am filing complaint with BBB and will probably have to take them to court to get my warranty.

Their company name is ironic.

That’s what I was warning about when this thread started. They mostly buy old emergency service vehicles with high hours and part them out. When I looked at the engines, they were many Ford remans, not what you want either. There are some parts you can get from them, but you have to be very selective.

If you want salvaged parts, it’s best to look local and see what you are getting and what it’s coming out of.

I have bought salvaged parts off of eBay but that’s an easy return and a half and you can get a good look at them.
