Im looking to buy a new wiring harness for a 1979 F-250. I've found prices anywhere from $180-850. I would like to go with painless but they seem a little pricey. Im not planning on running anything that pulls alot of amps like a system or anything, but I also don't want to go to cheap and overload the wires and cause a meltdown. I was wondering what everyones been using. Also, does anybody know what were some of the original factory wire gauges and how many circuits the fuse panel had. My wiring is so screwed up that I can't tell whats factory or replacement. Any info would be great.
I used centech and was happy. Not cheap though but it was designated ford and was easy to wire. I have heard good things about ron francis wiring also. Again not cheap but when it comes wiring i would not cut a corner. Nothing wrong with painless wiring but unless they changed most of their stuff was geared to gm but now i am not sure.
I think the best bet is Ron Francis' Retro or Express series harness for Fords. However, American Autowire in late 2011 came out with a 61-66 Ford truck harness so dimensionally it should sized correctly.
