I have a early 77’ highboy. About to put a lift on it. I know there’s no 6” lift kit to purchase. So how does one go about doing it without adding a body lift?
Check out Atlas Suspension they have up to a 6" or even 8" for up front. 6" only for the rear of a HB with 2 1/4 wide leaf springs. 8" is available for the front, just NOT the rear with the 2 1/4 wide HB leafs.
Thank you for that website... what is the purpose of front axle push? Besides 1” bigger wheelbase. Also what would be the benefit of getting rid of the factory blocks?
I'd call and ask them on the axle push. Maybe to decrease the d/s pinion angle.
Think of the rear block as a leverage or fulcrum point. The one OEM block is not bad, I mean the factory designed it, so 1 is ok. The bigger the block or the space (like normal lift kits just have you stack blocks) from the leaf spring and the axle the more or easier you can get axle twist.
Moving the axle further from the spring (in a geometry sort of way) multiplies the power/torque from the motor thru the drive line to the axle. Under acceleration the torque on the axle is feed back into the leaf springs. AKA spring wrap or axle wrap. Great way to wreck some drive line u joints. Leaf spring S twist ='s axle rotated ='s pinion angle changes='s easy way to exceed a u joints work radius.
Deleting the block and having a true all springs lift takes out a large percentage 98.237% chance of the axle wrap. lol Mostly applies in high horsepower rigs. Axle shims will probable still be needed.
With this new lift do not forget to $ factor in new shocks, and longer brake lines X3. Drop pitman arm and an adjustable steering drag link. A lot of this is being discussed right here.
The front axle push is mostly for driveline and approach angles, also for tire to cab clearance, but with 6"+ lift that shouldn't be an issue unless you want to stuff the largest tire possible.

Now would be the time to get rid of the rear 2 1/2" springs, spring hangers and shackles and get all 3" parts. Then you could buy 3" rear lift springs and have a better ride too.
