hi guys, i have a 99f250 sd, and i am deciding on a litf for it. i read a lot here about different peoples lifts, and they talk about axle wrap when using lift blocks for the rear. now, since i have a 5.4L, and i wont be doing any serious off roading, it will mostly be for looks, and minor mud, that should be fine to use blocks then? what exactly is axle wrap? is it when one side (left or right ) tries to move forward while the other side moves in the opposite direction? how does eliminating the blocks help eliminate that problem? thanks !!
Axle wrap is when the torque of the engine through the driveline "pulls" the front portion of the differential upward. It's normal - and it's gonna happen - but you will feel it more with blocks since the centerline of the axle is lower.
If you have a 2 piece driveshaft, you can get symptoms very similar to axle wrap due to the offset angles of each driveshaft.
I'm currently running a block lift on the rear and don't have any problems with axle wrap. It has been fine for everyday driving and some offroading (I don't do wild and crazy stuff offroad). It's up to you if you want to go with block or spring lift in the rear, just remember that you can end up with the same problems if it's not installed correctly.
