2004 Chirping
Horoscopes to know how the day is going to go with the motor or borescope?
Another member here turned me onto these. These are the two I’ve bought. The top one is smaller in diameter so that it will fit into the glow plug and injector holes so the pistons can be inspected to confirm a major failure, like I had long ago. It’s not sold right now, but they all are similar. I’ve already used them for other things, as simple as check for things lost under the ref, confirming in-wall issues that were flakey with a wall scanner, and checking out brakes on my 1952 dozer. For the price it’s a great tool. I’ve recorded and inspection of my motors cooling jackets and found two casting bridges which would have released sand into the cooling system.
The coloration is shifted blue due to LEDs, but it’s fine. Does the job.
Did you write an Amazon review? I plan on dropping the pan in April. Too many projects going on. I started working the E150 yesterday. Need to flush the brake fluid, flush the tranny via the Mark Kovalsky method, change the oil, and grease the Moog tie rods and ***** joints. My buddy and I used to drink a few beers and when we installed Moog products and kidded around what a good "Moog" we were in. He has since moved to Louisiana.
I loved Jersey. I lived about 10 miles outside of Princeton and the bicycling and running was great. No doubt it's all built up now. I have not been in Jersey since '92.
My sister lives in Manhatten and she says the Bay Area is scary compared with New York City or Jersy. I agree. Being a low-level grunt in the PD gives me boots on the ground view of the scum of the Earth.
Not sure I did a review.
Jersey has some great places and diversity. Beaches, Pine Barrens, Northern Delaware River, and access to NYC. There are a lot of areas we really enjoy. But once Leslie sells her Salon the property tax will have us settle elsewhere, maybe across the river. Les was born in Easton and we like the river area. An aunt and uncle once did too. No decision on the farm.
My uncle was an NYC detective, a friend down the street a Detective in Neptune. Friday and Saturday nights were not the times I preferred taking my mother into the ER at the hospital in Neptune. My uncle retired in 1970, 40 years in. Lots of old-school stories, not all in a great way but those were the times. The most nervous I've ever been was around 1975 being directed through a series of back tunnels of the NYC subway for how to get to the correct train. The officer directing knew the way, but he had different stature down there then me and my first wife. Right now NYC doesn't have the charm we were used to a decade ago. Our daughter lived in NYC for a decade mid 80's to 90's.

If I was not hauling $3000 in camping equipment, I would not hesitate driving cross country. I have solar panels, 2 80 ah AGM deep cycle batteries, tents, stoves, and all kinds of toys. Brand new Odyssey AGM batteries mounted below on the frame.
If I had to transfer to a rental van, it would have to be an extended E350 or Transit.
I have a diagnostic appointment this Wednesday. I specifically asked for diagnostic only. Bill of health.
I received a phone call from a reputable diesel repair shop this morning who is familiar with the particular noise. He also advised against spending too much on a van having 822k miles.
Boroscope excursion planned for Friday to view any damage to CAM.. I wonder when the last time the oil pan was dropped?
I Found a replacement 1998 E350 5.4 liter extended Club Wagon with 100k miles if needed. The van is owned by former Harley and Polaris director of engineering. The van is clean was used only as his personal motorcycle van. It does not have all the nice bells and whistles like electric windows, door locks, and cruise control. Can I slap a 6.0 Powerstroke diesel medallion on it to qualify me to post on this forum?

I read about the exhaust manifold leak causing a chirping noise. I opened the dog house and looked with a flashlight. I climbed under the van and looked. I had my hopes on finding the problem. This shop works on everything including 6.0 vans. He said he found the noise by first going to oil and listening for the chirp. It led him upstairs to the doghouse.
The owner told me straight out that a small leak from the manifold is not catastrophic and fixing it may not be a wise financial decision unless I plan on driving a lot longer. He advised me to pay close attention to the noise and as long as it does not get radically worse, to continue business as usual.
He suggested using it for a little while longer and selling it with full disclosure about the exhaust manifold leak. It's been a great van that has come with an enormous price tag in small repairs. I knew that getting into the van.
My regular diesel mechanic suggested a second look. He is 90 miles away and I have not had a free weekend to have him look the van since first going down this rabbit hole. He said, "If the manifold has a gasket it might make that noise but those manifolds don't make that kind of noise just because they are leaking they generally don't have gaskets unless someone was in there and put one on there".
I am driving there Saturday morning for final paid diagnosis.
