Last year I purchased a new set of 4 hankook tires, tires are holding up good, however they are God awful
noisy and I can't take it any longer. Mainly highway driving here and I need something quiet, are touring tires available for the Explorer? Don't use it for off road use.
Just look up your tire size in a website like “tires dot com” and view what tread types are available. Many summer tires should give you a quiet ride. Trade off is they might not do well in wet conditions
Tire rack has dozens for the '06 Explorer. Touring in LT or XL showing also. Do you have 16s or 17s?
Serving suggestion from Tire Rack site would be Michelin Premier LTX.
According to my tire lawyer friend, and by looking at the 6+ year old Michelin LT X load range C tires on our Explorer, you needn't count on luck when you go Michelin. Those tires are quiet and the have needed air one time in 6 years.
I put on a set of General Grabber STX in February 2018. It was around $600 from Walmart with Road Hazard protection and free life time balancing and rotation plus an oil change. They have been a pretty darn good time and better than anything else I had on the vehicle. Prior to that, I had 2 sets of Goodyears. The last set was so bad I had to find something else. However these Generals have handled well in the rain, snow and other wet conditions. Ride very smooth in dry conditions. I don't have anything bad to say about them.
you did not say what model of Hankook you have. They must be a very aggressive cross hatch pattern off road tire to make a lot of noise ? Any good " all weather tire" should be OK.. Tread will be more of a straight pattern, maybe a slight wiggle to it... Im not sure I would get an LT tire for an Explorer.. They ride more like a TRUCK.. a good P series tire should be more than adequate for highway driving with an Explorer.
