Wow, I had not noticed. I'll have to look now. Still better than my 2005 6.0 was. It was always covered in oil from one place or another. I love the new 6.7 rust or not.
Ever heard of surface rust?
Very common and not unusual.
The same thing will happen to various items under your truck and this is no different than the brake rotors rusting after they have been exposed to water.
difference is that you can’t paint rotors and they only rust when you don’t use them. The lack of paint is BS, and this is coming from a guy who had a driveshaft explode under his truck due to corrosion loss.
When you’re pumping out one million trucks a year, the cost to coat the metal is pennies on a per unit basis. Anyone who says different just isn’t right. Sorry. The real problem is that the bean counters aren’t stupid. You don’t need an MBA to figure out cutting $5 from a truck you make a million of every year gets you $5M in windfall profit.

Very few manufacturers are painting the engine block or any external parts that are connected to an engine because a lot of the parts are aluminum. This surface rust is not something that`s new to Ford or any other manufacturer.
With that being said, it`s quite amusing to me that people complain about this on an expensive vehicle but don`t complain about it on an inexpensive vehicle. Cast iron is cast iron and regardless if it`s painted or not, especially in the northeast, that paint will wear off and the surface rust will appear.
I'm pretty sure my Cummins 6.7 had a painted block, as I never noticed it being this rusty. It's the first thing I noticed when I put the truck on my lift to check it out.
So you`re saying that your Cummins block was rusty though..... right?
I guess that paint didn`t hold up to well did it. lol
