Looking for 1" or more spacer to put between duals on 15 F350. Its a feed truck so hauls quite a bit of weight. Tire man cant find any that he thinks will work or handle the weight Any ideas? Thanks guys
The wheel studs were not designed for the additional stress and that puts them at risk for failure. Same issue with a single wheel to move them outward for more clearance. That’s why our trucks have Hub Centric wheels to help reduce this but it does not eliminate the additional stress. Add to it as the wheel rotates the stress also does as they follow the rotation. Think about when you take a piece of metal and start moving it back and forth at first it is pretty difficult but it soon starts to move easier and more. Then it breaks. If this is thelug nutsthere goes the wheel.
A lotta guys do it but I would highly recommend not.
i work in the energy industry and have seen what happens when a high speed coupling comes apart when someone decides he can double the spacer thickness in a coupling, kinda like adding a shim between the wheels. 3600 RPM at 15,000 brake horse power and it becomes shrapnel.
If you find a good quality hubcentric spacer you will be fine if you are using the stock hub centric wheels. I think a lot of people don’t realize that dually a come from the factory wth spacers in the front.
Thanks guys. Wheel centric and hub centric, what does that mean? Tire guy didnt like the outside wheel not resting on hub lip and only resting on lugs. Any thoughts? Darn mud just creates problems....shakes the hell out of things going diwn the road.
Lug centric uses the lug nuts to center the wheel on the axle. It's not great and is not for a heavy duty truck.
hub centric has a lip on the hub face that matches the opening of the factory wheel. This perfectly centers the wheel and places the load oh the hub face and wheel and not the lugs.
Ford uses hub centric and the link I posted also uses hub centric high grade steel spacers that will be safe for what your truck needs
Also on our dump trucks we got three or four links of chain to the mud flap. The chain rides between the duals and cleans out debris when the dump is up
