i have a 1980 f150 ranger 4x4 5.0 np435 and I can go 80mph smoothly but I hit any bump going any more than 30mph and I get the worst death wobble I’ve ever felt nearly loosing control of the vehicle unless I lock up the brake then it’ll straighten out. I replaced all bushings including radius arm bushings and one tie rod had a little play so got a new one. New power steering pump and steering gear box and nothing changed about the death wobble. Literally have no idea what to do now. I’m doing the rag joint today even though it has zero play in it and hopefully that helps. If I’m forgetting something please let me know. Thanks
Back on the 60's vans with leaf springs & straight axles you be driving down the high way at 60+ MPH hit a little bump and all hell broke loose!
Like you, you would have to jump on the binders and slow down to a craw for it to stop.
Once you saw what was going on the fix was easy.
What was the fix you ask?
Front Shocks!
You hit a bump and the front axle would start bouncing like crazy.
Shocks are to keep that from happing.
Shocks are cheap and how old are the ones on your truck?

Try replacing the axel pivot bushing. I’ve experienced this and had it replaced. My truck is lifted, and had it replaced when it was done. Never any problems

He said he replaced all bushings but nothing on the shocks and why I said shocks.

It's been my experience that shocks last about the same amount of time as a set of tires. If you go over a bump and there is any hobbyhorsing it's time to replace them. I bought lifetime guarantee shocks from my tire dealer. I don't think they expect people to have the same truck for 33 years. I have gone through a lot of free shocks. I would recommend that you get the heavy duty type shocks for your truck.
Thanks guys for all the help I’ve been busy with work the past couple days. I’m definitely going to try the shocks they are 100% blown. I didn’t even think about that. Thanks

100% blown!
I would say 100% that is the problem.
With the early vans and I bet with your truck you hit a bump and the tire starts bouncing and will not stop till you almost come to a stop.
If the front are that bad think what the rear may be like.
Keep us posted as we like to know the out come.

I know this is almost a year late but it’s been broken for a long time. But the actual cause was the mount that the driver side traction beam mounts to someone welded it on super sharty and the welds were breaking I’m lucky they didn’t fully brake so I just welded it back on but actually did a decent job with it (I’m a fabricator for a living). I figured I’d post this for anyone else that’s having the same problem and are trying to find possible causes
