Just want to touch base with you guys see who's running 5 W 40 versus the recommended 10 W 30 , any reason why you switch to the 5 W 40 and he concerns that you had let me know also what brand are you using?
10W-30 HDEO that meets current CJ4+ or CK spec is normal fill, Ford states 5W-40 full synthetic (which all the 5W-40’s are) for severe service or bio-diesel.
Don’t run any FA spec oils.
You really can’t go wrong either way - oil analysis has shown the engine does well on both. I run 5W-40 year round myself.
I believe the main factor when choosing oil is lowest and highest temp. What works in northern mn from November to March is much different than say Dallas tx.
Factory fill is 10W-30. At 5K miles I started using 15W-40 Motorcraft for towing in hot weather. I run it year round living in the South. In colder climates the 5W-40 would be a better choice.
Also worth pointing out a 0w40,5w40 and a 15w40 are all the same thickness at 100cst. There was another thread with some bad information and someone really believed 15w40 was thicker than 5w40 at operating temp.
