Replacing Defroster Hoses

When I bought this '669 F100, the defroster on the driver's side did not work. It soon figured out why - The hose was not hooked up. But it was too short. So I order a new pair of hoses from Dennis Carpenter. I thought it was be a simple straight forward install, but I was wrong.

Are the defroster hoses supposed to go inside or outside the round rubber adapters that fit into the holes on the dash? The hoses have cam locks, so I thought the hoses were supposed to slide of the over the rubber adapters and then lock down the cam. But....the hose is the same diameter as the adapter. Both are 2 1/2". Since the adapters are rubber and pliable, I can get them inside the hoses, but there is always a bubble on one side. If I then lock the cam, the bubble gets bigger.

I could cut the cam lock off, warm the adapters slightly and stretch them to fit over the adapters.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the diagram. Unfortunately, it doesn't clearly show hos the hoses go on.

I'm thinking I'll cut off the cam locks, heat the rubber adapters, and then use some zip-ties or maybe even a hose clamp to hold the defroster hose on.

The upper end of the defrost hoses have a grooved rubber type adapter. If you will collapse the rubber adapter in on itself very slightly and lube it up with some wd 40 or Sil Glyde it will go in very easily. The groove fits onto the metal lip of the dash piece. Don't deviate from the factory retention method with tie straps or anything else. They work well as is.

Yes, I can get the rubber adapter into the new defroster hose, but the adapter stays "wrinkled" or "bunched-up". It has a bubble on one side.

Sounds like the rubber adapter is a hair too big. Do you think that if you did a single slice into the rubber that it would straighten out? Or would that make the rubber piece too weak for the clamp?

I've been very tempted to make a cut or a notch in the rubber, but I have resisted. Afraid I'll ruin it.

A bit before I found and joined FTE, I had the crushed velvet covered dash pad off that the PO had put on my Bump. I noticed the defroster duct hoses were bad. I ran across some repro hose assemblies for a 65 Mustang on line. Cheap enough so decided to try them. Especially since they came with their own rubber adapters to the dash. I got them to work. Their rubber adaptors were a bit different than a Bump's, but worked. Like the below

I guess I'm lucky because I part out trucks and one of the things I grab if they're in good shape are those defrost hoses. I've got several sets of them. There is no substitute for original Ford parts.

I finally found a way to make these hose I bought work. At work I have a large stapler that I use to staple 40 to 50 pages at once. It has large staples that are made of larger wire than a standard staple.

I put the adapters in the hoses as I had before, and used the stapler to staple right at the area where the adapter was sticking out. I then put two more staples in each adapter. Worked well. Installed them on Saturday.

Good idea, about the HD stapler.
