Hose clamps?

Is it my imagination or do those stock heater hose clamps suck! Man if you
don'thave the right pair of pliers and a good access angle it's trying
to get them off.
Anybody recommend a good replacement SS clamp and source? Something that won't rust in two months.

I notices that this past weekend when installing a 203* thermostat. What a PITA to get off. I wish I would have put new ones on when I had the old on off.

if you have the ford tool then they work very well. most are self locking and lock in the open posistion to make install easy but without the tool they are a PITA.

I also had one of the Ford clamps begin to seep above the thermostat. I didn't want to drain the coolant down again, so I opened the clamp, slipped a small chisel between the hose and the clamp to protect the hose and cut the clamp off with a dremel tool. Then I was able to put on a ss worm clamp. I think I'll pick up some ss CT clamps for the hoses and get rid of those leakers.

Most tool vendors make a good set of pliers that work well on the devil clamps. They have a length of cable on them so you can get the business end in those tight spots and squeeze the handle in safety. Go to an auto parts store and get some good SS worm gear clamps. The only reason the spring clamps are on there is because it's easy for an assembly line worker of a robot to put them on. They don't expect them to come off again.
