Head gasket question

Let the truck sit for a couple hours, started right up and drove the last block home. I pulled and cleaned the EGR valve last week, it was dirty but nothing too crazy.
Wires into the FICM see to be seated and I dont see any chaffing on the wiring harness. Went to pull the cap off the fuel regulator to see if I was getting any air in the fuel. Guess what broke (yes I was using a socket). So any tips to removing the cap would be appreciated.
