I am very glad i decided to go all the way in. On the bottom side the front lower main was well worn. Im not sure how much longer it would have made it , but it would have terrible to do a bunch of top side work and then ?? thousand miles later have the bottom end start knocking.
The rest of the lower main shells were worn but none as bad as that one. On the top side when I inspected each of the bores most had nice cross hatch but 3 didn't look good. I may have been getting some water migration into the bore. There was rust colored staining and the hatch was worn off.
Does any one have experience with this ? Can I get by with a ball honing and re-ring or should I go ahead and get it bored ? I have not measured it yet.
I would dress it out with Scotch-Brite 96 (600 grit) which would clear the surface without interfering with the honed oil retention crosshatch. Then determine the pitting.
International calls out the hone for deglazing for new rings, but I found another source.

Thanks for the info. After some contemplation I decided to go all the way. What started as gaskets and head studs has gone to a full rebuild. New O-ringed heads from power stroke products , rings and bearings and pistons are the same cost wether they are standard or 20 over. We plan on keeping our excursion for at least 10 more years so we decided to do it all and have a dependable ride for years to come.

I'd do exactly the same, after looking at your photos.
Go for it. If you have a good machine shop that your confident in, the block can be worked up. If any questions, Asheville’s option for a short block is another possibility from what I’ve seen. No matter what I do my trucks body won’t make 10 years, wish it was.
