Have you tried "sport mode" when towing. I found with my 18-5.0 I acted better on down hill with #9000 tagging behind. I hope I'm not wearing to out but I use the the up/down switch a lot when ever towing.
If i need to accelerate "fast" i use sport mode, the amount of slip allowed in tow/haul mode cause a unpleasant shudder and a ton of heat to build up in the trans it seems. I know sport mode uses a firmer lock up and firmer shifts so it seems to benefit taking off in a hurry.
have found you have to roll into it, the truck will still break the tires loose with 1k of TW.
If every one was so displeased with these F-150's it would not be the best selling truck at any cost and they would not sell.
Don't get me wrong, I love my truck. I'd have to say it's the best truck I've owned, and I've had several. With that being said just because it's the best selling truck doesn't mean it's the best truck. Just look at McDonald's....... number 1 selling hamburger......

Since I did a tune, I no longer use sport mode. No need to. I keep it in normal mode all the time now.

Thr 3.5s are a whole different animal to tow with than the 5.0. It makes way more torque down low similar to a diesel. Yes they are very easy to break the tires loose even empty you tend to roll into it more especially when you get a few miles on the tires even more so with a light trailer attached. The 5.0 will break them loose but takes a little more throttle, or at least so far with mine (it will be a year old 4-11) with 5,264 miles it is showing 75% oil life. I do kick it every once in a while but so far I have had no klunks, jerks or jumps when shifting. I have played with all the "modes" some including manuel. For the most part, I am not the first one off the line at a light but I'm not the last either, I usually go with the flow of traffic. Occasionally I get a wild hair and do race to the next light, just not near as often as I used to.
