I was just reading another post when this issue came up. I was towing in the mountains this summer with an 8000 pound trailer give or take and the only way to make my truck down shift when climbing a hill at 50 mph and not loose speed was to manually put it in third gear. When I did this the truck pulled like a champ but like I said I had to initiate the shift myself. Has anyone else experienced this. My truck is a supercrew, max tow, 5.4 liter, 6-speed, with 3:73 rear gear ratio.
I have not had the same experience when towing my 6,500 lb car hauler w/Jeep loaded. My truck downshifted smoothly to keep speed. Did you have the tow/haul mode on?
I too ask... was tow/haul engaged? Mine really doesn't hesitate to downshift and hold the gear through a grade if needed. I've been downright impressed with the shift logic of the tow/haul mode...
Yes tow/haul was on! Did everyone's transmission downshift into third? It did downshift but only down into fourth. This was on very steep grades and I wanted to maintain my speed but like I said I had to manually shift into third to do so.
