Hi Guys! Here is another video tutorial for the archives courtesy of The Minute Masters!
In this video, I show you how to replace the brake booster on a 1995 f150. It's one of the easiest repairs you can do even if it looks complicated. So watch the video, learn, and enjoy!🤙
The inspector failed you for the fluid leaking on the brake booster? That fluid's not coming from the booster, it's coming from the master.
You're right, if it was fluid it would be the master cylinder. He didn't actually say it was leaking anything. He just said the brake booster is starting to leak.
Do most of you paint for brake booster? The AC-Delco or A1-Cardone, can't remember which, I installed had surface rust all over the top and it is less than a year old. I need to find the receipt and follow up with the vendor but I just wondered if ya'll paint em.
The only thing boosters leak is air. Any wetness means the master cylinder is leaking out the back. Had to replace the master cylinder on my '87 for that very thing. Though, now a few years later, I do need to replace the booster because of vacuum leaking by the inside seal when I depress the brake pedal.
Ah, cool. I wonder what symptom made him think the booster was leaking, or if that's even a common thing for inspectors to look for.
I have no idea but now that I have the new on the brake takes actual work to push! lol It definitely used to sink easier before. So the inspector must push and hold the brake to see if the pedal stays at the same level or he pumps it. But yeah I had no idea they checked it.

I've put a couple in and never painted them. This is an A1 Cardone booster. So I guess, I'll see if it rusts. The coating on it now seems fine.
Camo-F250,
The Allied Signal brake booster in my 95 F-150 Eddie Bauer is painted black, I wipe it each time I wash the truck and polish it annually. Think if I ever have to change it and the new one isn't painted, I will paint it black before installation. I've adopted an attitude to try to keep all my vehicle engine bays clean; dirt and heat accelerate hardware failure.
It appeared to be painted a nice silver from the manfucturer and also had a tag saying do not remove the check valve for warranty. If i can find the reciept (which was foolish) to loose I plan on calling about it. Same silver in the video clip.
That silver is just bare metal with just a cheap rust prohibitive on it. Nothing I would say to keep it from rusting horribly in a few years. I painted the last one I installed. The "coating" made the paint fish eye, but I didn't have time to sandblast it to make it all purdy.
When you mean leak are you talking about it making a hissing noise when you apply the breaks?
Mine makes a swoosh noise most the time but sometimes when I'm really applying the brakes it goes from a swoosh to a hiss and btw I have really spongy/soft breaks but it still stops just not real good.
Mine is only about three years old same with the master cylinder, but the outside of mine has rust on it too, next one I'm getting I will paint black to keep it from rusting.
