I am getting all my ducks in a row so when I bring the X home I can take it to my guy to have him do the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, trans fluid and filter, air filter.
Now my question is about plugs. I already have the denso boot set ready to order but i want to know the ideal plugs. In my DD i have iridium plugs, is that an option for the X or should I stick with the nickel/platinum combo that was stock? Also, what are the odds of needing new coils? The X im looking at is an '03 6.8L with 140k on the clock.
Plugs
Denso 4512 Gapped .040
Mototcraft SP479 Gapped at .054
Why are they gapped differently for same application????
No Idea why the difference in gaps listed, but the MC SP-479s are the correct plug and their listed gap is also correct.
The COPs live long lives, until they die, when that happens you will have a miss, so no need to replace good functioning COPs, maybe buy one of the Denso units to keep in the EX as a spare if one goes out on you while on the road. I carry 2 of the Denso COPs as spares but am still on all 10 originals at 120K miles.
The Motorcraft FL-820S oil filter is the one you want, it has the correct internals, some other brands lack.
Is your guy going to fully flush the trans or just do a pan drop and drain? The flush will change out ALL of the ATF while a drop and drain only gets 6/7 quarts changed out. Mark K's flush procedure is very easy to do and can be found up in the Tech Folder.
These motors seem to drink a little more oil with the lighter 5W-20 vs the 5W-30, I always run with the heavier oil.
thoughts on duralast coils? They have a lifetime warranty and my previous 5.4 went through a couple every few months it seemed. Nice to just swap it out for a new one. But if motorcraft is better and last longer, should I just stick with those?

Most folks here, including me will advise to stick to OEM ignition parts, Denso is the OEM manufacturer for these COPs and boots, exact same as Motorcraft but about half the price. COPs are Denso #673-6000, Boots are Denso #671-0001 and Motorcraft SP-479 are the plugs that you want.
COPs for these motors should last a very long time, mine have 120K on them and I expect a few more years out of them.

You won't even make it put of the driveway before the CEL comes on. The coils don't work, lots of frustration here. Either motorcraft or denso and only motorcraft plugs.
