I am about to change my original spark plugs on my 1997 F250HD with 7.5 or 460 cu. in.with 68,000 miles. It has Motorcraft ASF 42P Plugs. I was told to stay with Motocraft plugs. I am confused with all the different plugs on the market. ie platinum, double platinum, platinum + 4. Any recommendations? The truck seams to run fine, the fuel mileage is about 9 mpg. when new I got about 12mpg thought by changing plugs would help with mileage. Also may try a K+N air filter? Any thoughts?
I like the Motorcraft plugs. Have not had any luck with Bosch.
When you install the plug, be sure to use some anti sieze. My 94 F250 460 seems to rust the plugs solid within the 36K mile change. I live in Oregon so lots of moisture may be the cause.
BTW my supercab, long bed 4x4 auto, gets about 10-11mpg in city/freeway driving. Change your fuel filter too, it makes a surprising difference in feel, especially if you haven't changed it in awhile.
You might want to search this site and the web for issues concerning the K&N filters.
I decided to replace my K&N filter with a paper filter after reading about the potential issues. One site did a detailed study and found the K&N to pass much more dirt than a standard filter. Actually the AC filter was one of the best so that's what I put in (oh the shame).
