Ignition brake light short
I have a 1996 F 250 7.3 but the problem is the brake lights coming on when the key is in the run or on position. They do not come on in any other key position nor do the lights fully illuminate. They are led lights and are dim when the key is in the run position. I have had the led for 4 months and there has not been a problem with them at all. When I step on the brake pedal they fully illuminate but don't go totally out if the key is in and engine running. I have changed out the brake pedal switch, ignition switch and starter solenoid switch as well. I did a diagnosis by fuse and found its 1 of the 20 amp fuses in the engine compartment that controls the power to the brake lights. So, pulled fuse and brake lights went out and even installed new fuse although the old 1 was still good. The 20 amp fuse is the last 1 in the row on the left hand side of the engine fuse box.
All the other fuses in the truck work both under the dash and in the engine box as well, all lights work and there is no other electrical problems.
If anyone has some insights were to look next please let me know!
Thanks!!
