DP Tuner reprograming?

Thinking about new injectors.

I have a DP5 or DP6, not sure which (16 position).

DP says I have to pay full price for new tunes. I already bought 6 tunes from them and I feel one is a duplicate. They said I'm dumb and wont check, so I'd rather pay someone else for tunes.
Do anyone else's tunes work on DP's hardware?

FWIW I have a 40hp tow and 60hp tow tune and cannot tell any difference between the two. I run uphill towing 15k and switch between them and see no difference in EGT's, noise, power....
You would think there would be a difference between tunes,

I have the DP tuner too with all the tunes, there's very little difference between some of them & to be honest I've not really used the low hp tow tunes, I generally stay with the 60hp tow tune pulling a 12500 5th wheel, I only went with DP for the deceleration tune as no one else seems to offer that. Overall I'm happy with the tunes although 2nd to 3rd shift can be a bit harsh towing.
I don't think that anyone else can write tunes for their product which is why so many people say get the PHP Hydra.
If I were buying again I might make a different choice.

If you buy the new injectors through DP, the new tunes are free, but the same applies to all other tuners as well. I’d take this opportunity to jump ship and buy a Hydra and tuning as part of a package deal from elsewhere. 1023 Diesel, Jellibuilt, Gear Head...pick your poison.

Pissed off that they would sell me both with no difference. You would think there would be a difference between tunes, otherwise why have a difference? And why charge me for both?

DP will never get one dollar, not even 50 cents from me. A couple of years ago I was interested in one of their products and they were unresponsive to my questions, then somewhat rude or sarcastic when they did eventually respond.

It is a shame too because they are 60 miles from me.

That's the exact opposite of the service I got, I was having problems trying to order online (due to my location & they weren't set up for shipping to the UK) they went above & beyond to help me get what I wanted. I do wish that it was open to other tuners though.

Well, after a half sunday reading and shopping, I think I'll go with a set of Full Force 205's and a new Hydra Tuner.

Thanks for the input!

I bought my tuner from DP some 9 or 10 years ago. Before ordering it I called them for information and to discuss what tunes would be good as this was my first diesel. They were very helpful and spot on.
Haven't had any problems with it although that was a long time ago and I never had a need to talk with them again or to any other vendors for that matter. Just expressing my experience.
There may be better but I'm satisfied.

There are much better, not to mention safer options out there.

I ran their stuff from December 2009 until January 2012 when I went to Gearhead tuning.

I wasn't all that impressed with them but the truck still drove. It wasn't until I bought Full Force Stage I injectors that I knew it was time to move on. I got terrible customer service and their tuning almost destroyed my engine and transmission. Jody swore up and down it was my truck that had issues and wasn't the nicest person about it. Talk about rude and condescending...when I pulled his chip off my truck, it ran and shifted perfectly fine. I even upgraded to an F6 to save myself the cost of having to ship the F5 back and forth for Jody to fix it. Since Jody couldn't and wouldn't fix the problem, I text Matt himself at Gearhead and as soon as I slapped his chip on my truck, it ran and shifted perfect. Still does to this very day...

With the PHP Hydra you have plenty of options and aren't just limited to one persons tunes: Gearhead, Tony Wildman, 1023, to name a few. You're coming out ahead with better, safer tunes using the PHP Hydra.

I haven’t had any issues with tunes but DP needs to get on the hydra bandwagon. I think DP is over priced yes. They have always been helpful and responsive to me.
