I am replacing my fuel filter, not because I think there is any issue, rather doing it just for a little peace of mind. That said, I have the new filter, and a plastic wrench to get the top off, my question to the group is whether there are any gotchas for this job? Specifically, I am wondering whether there is a seal or gasket inside that I could break when opening up the housing? I do not want to start the process without all the items needed to complete it. Thanks in advance for all help and advice.
Pull the filter straight up, avoid pulling it sideways as you can brake the stand pipe. I replace the filter at least every 15-20k and drain the fuel/water valve every 5k.
Oh and if you stay OEM cap make sure you get the oem filter as some aftermarket filters won't fit correctly and make sure the gasket has the bevel facing up.
I only use Baldwin filters as they have the cap is part of the filter and are of high quality.
X2 on making sure the gasket is oriented properly. First time I did it I had to read the directions because it looked wrong to me.
Also when putting the new one in, go slowly. Plop it in there quickly and it's likely to overflow some fuel.
Good time to disconnect the fuel heater element in there. I know it snows in Prescott (my Dad lives there) but I would not worry about gelled fuel there.
Make sure you actually drain the fuel bowl before the swap. A while back a member did the change without draining the bowl, he had a small piece of debris prevent his truck from starting.
Do you happen to know what size hose fits on the drain valve? I have searched, but none of the guides reference what size, just to use a hose. Thank you in advance for your help.

There is a hose on it from the factory...it dumps in front of the crossmember. (on passenger side?)

I like to set the beveled gasket in place & check for uniformity,if needed carefully stretch until it lays flat, the gaskets are folded pretty tight in packaging.I have never had a sealing problem for 8 years & 8 filter changes.Motorcraft or Racor from Riff Raff used only.
