I like to use Mike's Carburetors. He's pretty good about answering email, has a boatload of YT videos about disassembly &c, and has the manuals for free download in .pdf. Don't misunderestimate the latter, there's all kinds of good stuff in carb setup that people skip over. Plus they offer good quality kits and parts. Can't get much better than that. There's actually only a couple kits, though there are some crappy kits from some vendors. Mainly there's some differences in the accelerator pump styles over the years, it's best to disassemble and look to see what you've got though to be sure. Some of the parts don't get used, one kit will cover many different carburetors.
Glad to help. It's not a bad idea to take a look at the jet size # installed, and power valve # before ordering a kit and test the float by submerging in boiling water to check for pinhole leaks. Floats aren't included in a basic rebuild kit.
Float springs were installed on truck carburetors, these are a good addition to any 2100 and only a buck or two. These aren't included in the rebuild kits either and are almost always missing. After all this time there's no telling what jets or powervalve might be installed by a previous owner and the jets could be way off the beam, either too large or too small or drilled out etc, causing confusion. If you happen to live at altitude the stock powervalve & jets will cause it to run way too rich and foul out the spark plugs and waste lots of fuel economy. So it's a good idea to check everything out.
Can y'all point me to the right one? Autolite 2100
D4AZ-9A586-A (replaced C2AZ-9A586-B) .. 2100 series Auto-Lite/Motorcraft 2V Carburetor Kit (Motorcraft CT-499-D) / Available from Ford & auto parts stores.
Carb kit includes gaskets, needle/seat, accelerator pump, accelerator pump check valve, power valve and misc hardware, but does notinclude the jets because there is more than just one.
btw: If this is a 500 series or larger truck with an FT engine, the carb has been swapped, because this C4AF carb was originally installed on a 1964 Galaxie 352/390.
If you look on the driver's side of the carburetor bowl you'll see a "clock" in the casting, with a number in the center, something like 1.08 or 1.12, this refers to the Venturi size inches. While just about anything will work, if you've a large heavy truck a smaller carb will tend to work better. Ford supplied small carburetors in big heavy trucks for good reason. If you open up the exhaust they breathe a whole lot better. By '64 they used a 1.02" Venturi for all 292 truck engines. That's almost as small a carburetor as they made.
