Rebuilding Carburetor
How hard is it for a complete novice to rebuild a carburetor? I have the shop manuals and another ford book to assist, but I am wondering if I am crazy to even consider doing this. I am good with construction, but this is a first with trucks.

Not really. The only ones that are rwal nighmares are the 3V Honda and Subaru carbs.....more pieces and springs than you can even begin to imagine...and nothing color coded, everything a different size, spec, etc. If you have any doubt I can recommend Culver Carburator in Culver City, Ca...they have been around for 30+ years are very reliable and typically, most complete carb rebuilds including minor resurfacing is around $150. My one advise is to not purchase a rebuild kit from the local autoparts store. Many of the kits have gone "generic" & are missing critical items or the parts are just crap. Purchase a compelte kit from a Ford dealer, Dennis Carpenter reproductions or the best kits I have found is at the Carb rebuilding shops. They actually don't use "kits" but have all the individual pieces (good quality), diagrams etc and will sell you a complete "kit" for anywhere from $70 to $100.

it depends on what kind of carb you plan on rebuilding. when i first started working on my truck the holley 600 that was on there need to be rebuilt. it was easy enough for as little of experince i had then.
