2004 F350 4x4 270k miles. Factory ESOF hubs that work.
Just got back from a 2000 mile trip and checked for codes and got this 1876, Transfer case 2wd solenoid short to ground. The switch on the dash is in 2wd, no bucking or indication while driving that the front wheels are engaged.
Tried manually rotating front drive shaft, won’t spin. Tried reversing and applying brakes, still can’t make it spin.
During the trip needed to use 4wd and when I turned the switch to 4hi or low, all tires hooked up.
Does anyone have a part number for this solenoid or a pic? I tried searching but have not been successful. Just that it is located on the passenger side of the case.
I can drive as is because the hubs don’t lock until vacuum is applied, but I would like to get this fixed.
Here’s an update. Went to the ford dealer to try and figure out the part based on the code. Couldn’t find the solenoid mentioned so I am stuck. Will keep researching but if some knows please respond.
Idk about that code but I had the same problem of front drive shaft being locked in. So I locked in hubs and while driving down the road I engaged and disengage the 4 wheel drive and that fixed it
Upon more research and discussion with ford dealer, the code usually references the PVH solenoid. This is the solenoid that sends pulse vacuum to the front hubs. Odd that the definition of p1876 mentions transfer case?
The solenoid is located near passenger battery and I picked up replacement. Will try swapping them tomorrow.
It is funny that you mention the PVH solenoid throws a P1876, because I was having a P1832 and P1876 code. I just replaced my solenoid because it was leaking vacuum and both my codes have gone away.
When I switched the truck into 4wd the light on the dash would indicate that I was in 4wd, but I wasn't. Found out the hard way in the snow. Anyways I know the transfer case switched because when I manually locked the hubs I was in 4wd and was able to drive out of where I was stuck. Also my HVAC defaulted to defrost.
When I got home I did some troubleshooting and determined that my vacuum leak was caused by the PVH solenoid. I ordered a new OEM, put it in and solved my leak. I by chance clear my P1832 and P1876 codes and they haven't come back.
Well this was unexpected. I ohmed the new solenoid and got 49 and 50 ohms which is what I expected, then tried old one and it was 119, so bingo, installed the solenoid. Old one was out of spec, went for a drive and now I have two codes. P1876 is still there but I picked up p 1832 which is for 4wd transfer case.
Why would replacing the solenoid give me a new code? It was OEM.
Thanks
Check I think fuse 27 & 111. Then check the relays near the front drivers side fender under the hood. One is the LOW & the other is the HIGH that operates the shifter motor on the t-case. And ultimately check the motor on the t-case.
Heres a schematic so you can see the wiring.
