I have a 2006 6.0 with 170k miles that is going to need an oil cooler replaced (I think). I put a Fix-UR-6 on and back flushed multiple times and then did a system flush using the procedure found in this forum. I added a coolant filter. I also replaced the EOT sensor and the T-stat with a Ford OE unit. The EOT’s lag ECT’s until around 155* and track almost 1 for one until 195* when the T-stat opens. EOT’s stay around 200* for a short while then they run up to around 230*. I took my laser temp gun and checked temps at the oil filter cap, EOT sensor bung and the EGR and they all read around 200* +/- 3* while the Edge indicates 220’s. Am I missing something or will the temps be this far apart? I spoke to the shop that will do the oil cooler and they said they will check it with their scanners. Also, what are the going prices for oil cooler/EGR delete replacement? I’m in the metro Atlanta area and got an estimate of $2k, parts, labor and tune for the EGR (which I'm good with).
Thanks,
Scott
Im looking at a new oil cooler for my '05. Most likely going with Bullet Proof Deisel https://www.bulletproofdiesel.com/BP...heavy-duty.htm installing myself. They also have a direct replace for the stock cooler but build to be more reliable, costs around $500 if I recall... I priced out EGR deletes and pricing seems to be all over the place but under $200 seems common.
That's what I've found as well. I can't do this job and I don't mind paying a good mechanic 8-10 hours of labor to do it. The shop has a good rep with people I know and trust. Besides, counting out $$ is easier than turning the wrenches!
