Missing PCM ground tab

my electrical issues started again today where the truck turns off and pcm/idm relays are clicking. After some further research I saw my pcm ground tab is not installed. Does anyone know where I can get this part or what it looks like so I can make one.

I just looked at a spare cover I have, there’s no clip on it either. I’ll look at the truck tomorrow but there’s no metal in the cover to make a ground to the pcm. If you think that is your issue I’d just bend a piece of copper over or make a grounding strap.

Added a ground wire to my PCM housing in addition to the stupid clip over a year ago. It runs out with the chip cable and is grounded to the underdash frame

I think it may be the issue but not sure. I have found the pcm was sliding back and forth fixed that thought the problem was fixed, problem came back, than I found part of the cable on the disconnected the fuel bowl heater was frayed and possibly contacting then IPR I plugged it back in thought the problem was fixed. Clearly it’s not this is the latest find on my investigation. Maybe those were all problems and it’s getting better as the frequency has dropped since I took the first 2 steps. The truck also no longer acts up on bumps. Yet, when your behind the wheel and it’s acting like it was in the YouTube with a 650 mile trip next week it’s frustrating.

If the pcm was sliding back and forth, it’s the 10mm bolt on firewall that is loose.

Yes I was on a road trip backing up in a storm backed up and she shut down wouldn’t restart. I turned that 10 mm and it’s been secured for about 8000 miles. Another moment where I thought this issue was repaired. Currently wondering if I should remove the PCM and IDM and reinstall or if that’s a waste of my limited time.

Honestly, I just dealt with removing the pcm for a Hydra chip and pcm repair, really not sure how that bolt comes loose. At this point, I don’t think it can hurt. Make sure everything is clean. Just do not over tighten it, the last thing you want to do is break that bolt off or stripped the threads on the pcm.

I removed the PCM first than made my own ground clip. Initially the pcm was not in all the way my fault the truck was worse. Than after one more round the problem went away than put a starter in the neighbors ford super camper from 1970s thanks for the replies hopefully the problem is solved

Pulled off a relay laying around

This problem of the PCM - IDM relays clicking as posted has been a problem forever on these rigs. Unfortunately nobody has ever reported back with a 100% fix, that I know of. It's probably a grounding issue somewhere. The PCM simply activates the PCM relay and that relay activates the IDM relay. Internal grounding wires to the engine relays and PCM (ground internal wiring) also go the radiator support, at least on the OBS trucks. Check out the radiator support frame, especially on the drivers side as they are major ground connections for these items.

Thanks the truck drove great today. Extra cleaning increased the HP as well lol Yes there have been many reports with this issue some have fixed it by tightening the batteries. It appears several places in the chain can cause symptoms. Mine have been ongoing but intermentiemnt. Things I feel helped besides this ground clip are reconnecting my fuel bowl heater. After finding exposed wire that was contacting the ipr when bouncing around. Additionally the PCM was found to be loose along the way on a road trip. I noticed a significant improvement each time.
