Say Rich, tell us about your Air Show out at the airport? Sounds rather exciting. At least it has the stick in the muds complaining.
Haha...Not my airshow but it looks like we might have one. Contrary to what has been said it's not a done deal yet. However I'm sure they will work out the details and it will happen. I've been able to avoid most of this as the burden to making this go is placed on the promoters.
And yes all of the complainers are complaining. I find it really funny that some of the same people that complained about the roll races we did are complaining about an airshow. They whined the roll race was non-aeronautical. OK here is aeronautical. I'm glad I'm not one of those folks who are perpetually angry at everything and everyone. What a way to live..

I haven't seen a lot about it since we don't subscribe to the Mac Scandal Sheet. I heard something about this being the annual airshow from Hillsboro being moved down here, or is this an "in addition to"? I'm presuming they have the infrastructure to support the increased surge in demand for Avgas and JP...
1979 - 1982 we owned a house on Kingwood Drive. This was after the City made us move into town with a silly rule saying Police and Fire had to live in the same zip code on the same telephone exchange. Evergreen Helicopter was very active in those days with both rotary wing and fixed wing operations. We also had quite a few military ops there in conjunction with it being a "P" rated field (I was a SSgt in the OANG at the time as well) and the fact that the NG unit was a Round Out Brigade to the 7th Infantry Division at Fort Ord. We had air mobile readiness and transports to Ft. Lewis fairly regularly. I don't recall air traffic ever being much of any kind of noise problem in Kingwood. Certainly didn't disturb us.
HIO is rehab-ing their runway so it's not available this year for the show. They knew this was coming but I think they thought they were going to be done in time and the POP said no, no show this year.
The airshow folks have talked to us several times over the last 4 years about a show. It was presented as an "in addition to" but now it looks like a permanent move. As the City of Hillsboro has grown, it's become more difficult to do an airshow there so they have been planning a move at some point. There are a lot of factors that go into it but we (MMV) are in a good location.
The reality though is we (MMV) don't have the area or infrastructure HIO does so the show will have to be scaled down to work. The airshow folks don't see that as an issue.
I think it would be a good thing for both the airport and the city. Having a premiere event is one of the the city's strategic goals and this would fulfill that.

I think it is an outstanding idea and that the local area would benefit greatly. In fact, the whole county including Newberg should jump in and provide all the backing and support they can muster. Evergreen Air and Space Museum might even be a resource. Let the wineries take a back seat for a couple of days, but I can see how they could capitalize and make out like bandits.....
