C-clamps all the way... Well, as long as the overlap joints are good and strong.

I see no problems at all with clamps in place of welding because the overlap is usually 2-3" of pipe and then perhaps a lap clamp. My MBRP came with clamps and slip joints, most aftermarket exhaust kits are clamps with slip joints.

Just my two pennies worth...

I would spend a little extra and use lap joint or butt joint clamps, either stainless or aluminized steel. These joints hold well and if you ever have to replace or remove the muffler they will allow you to do it without tearing up the exhaust pipe and/or muffler. These clamps don't crimp the metal and will save your sanity in the future, just ask Sous if he enjoyed bending, prying, and cussing when he had to re-engineer his down pipe juncture with the exhaust pipe. I have used them on several vehicles over the years and they are a gas tight, reliable alternative.

I had mine welded in. Possibly the first mod I did to the truck. IIRC the BTM was $48 and the weld labor was $50, lol. There was a bit of the exhaust pipe either before or behind the muffler, an S shape, that was cut off and inverted (up or down not end to end) to make it line up perfectly straight. I had access to a good muffler shop that built a complete, beautiful dual exhaust to accommodate headers on my '75, so it was an easy choice. Plus I hate working on exhausts.

Welding means nothing can come loose. Still waiting for the BTM to rust through so I can have them bend up a 4" setup with a big honkin' FTE resonator.

Amazon Amazon

Clean, tight 360 degree seal, easier to remove if necessary, and at $12 each, relatively cheap.
