Door seal mod problem

Hey guys, I’ve run into a slight issue while trying the door seal mod on my early 99 extended cab f250. I took the seal off and was about to feed the latex tube through when I noticed that the seal is missing the channel that I’m supposed to feed the latex tubing through.

Heres a pic of mine:

Heres a pic of one with the fourth channel:

Now my next question is this: Is the seal with the 4th channel a dealer only item or would amazon/eBay have it?

Thanks guys.

Just feed it through the seal you have, that’s what I did, works fine. I used a drain snake to pull it through the loop and LOTS of Silicone lube. It helps to have someone pull as you push it through. If it’s cold outside bring them in overnight to warm up...

As previously stated, I have the same style door seal amd just feed the tubing through the opening. You said you have an extended cab, I do as well. There was a spot in the seal where the doors latch and it was solid. I just poked a hole and fed the tubing as close to the obstruction as possible from both sides. Worked just fine

As mentioned use lots of silicone spray. I stuck the fine red spray tube into the small holes that run along the entire length of the channel and puffed a small burst of silicone in along the entire seal, then tugged it thru with a fishtape

You know what... This might help with my wife slamming the doors all the time... What size and what material tubing goes into the OEM door seal? I am thinking an appropriate sized vacuum tube or something that is cheap as dirt.

I don't have any noise issues or seal problems, just wife slamming doors problems... This might help.

Sous it won't help with that. Especially since she'll have to shut the door a little harder than normal at first until the tubing settles into shape better. I have a slammer here too. Has to slam every door when she shuts one, almost like she tries to attract attention doing it, even in the house. I actually put fat rubber strips on the interior door jams to lessen the impact. Got tired of redoing the sills. On a positive note the crappy shims between the door frames and walls are now solid wood screwed into place, gonna take SWAT a few extra tries with the battering ram to get in

Thanks Paul, I hadn't gotten "my wokenup on yet" when posting the question.

For reference, this is the tubing/material used in the video.

I tried putting the tubing in the channel that Colorado350 circled. But I ran into the solid piece that njstern referred to. This is mainly why I was looking to buy the 4 channel seal. So that I wouldn’t have to cut up the seal that I have. That and the passengers side seal had shrunk a bit because it gets the brunt of the sun where I park.

That video that MPG posted is why I decided to try the door seal mod. It’s a really good and informative video.

This is what I bought, it did both front doors. 3/8"OD 1/4"ID LATEX TUBING(804 BLACK) 30FT
Amazon Amazon

That solid piece is basically to connect the two ends on the truck, I pulled it out and ditched it. It’s a ROYAL PITA to get the latex through the loop. You will need something solid to push through then push into the latex tube. Tape the hell out of it, then SLOWLY pull it through the loop. I also used an air compressor to blow any loose dust out of it.

I did all the doors on my Ex, including the cargo doors. I discovered that having the door seal stretched out perfectly straight makes a huge difference in how easily the tubing will slide through. Even with lots of lube it was impossible, when I stretched the seal straight the tubing pulled through quite easily. I used a combination of 5/16" and 3/8" silicone tubing. Looser doors got the 3/8. The doors feel better to close and the interior noise was greatly reduced.
