I was looking for and happy to find a 2000, ZF6 with forged rods. Although, I was also searching for any 7.3 with a ZF6. If your plans and goals are to keep the HP under say 450, then PMR would suit you just fine. Don't narrow your search simply because of something you read on the internet.
You know, I never wondered about whether I had forged rods or not...so I looked at my door sticker today for my 2001. Build date is 08/00 so looks like I prolly have them. And never even realized I had such an early build. I learn something new every time I spend time on this forum.
I learn s0mething new every day, as well. I am basically l00king Nati0nwide - 0n Aut0 Trader, Car Gurus, Ebay, etc. It's n0t that I have $ t0 burn, but I have time, and I want s0meting very specific. I am f0cusing 0n '99-'03 7.3 P0werstr0ke with l0w miles - must be Aut0 Transmissi0n cause 0f the wife. I really want a Dually. N0T interested in big H.P., but want BIG t0rque, and t0wing ability - s0 w0uld prefer f0rged r0ds, but n0t a game breaker.
I certainly am not putting all my cards on the forged vs, powdered metal rod issue.
It's only one small factor that I would consider.
Another nice truck for sale is a 2000 Model - manufactured in 10/99.
I can get them to send a photo of the door sticker - just not the serial number on the engine.
So, I'm guessing this puppy would definitely have the forged rods.

That 2000 model would have the forged rods and the upgraded HPOP, turbo, and intercooler tubes compared to an e99 model. Also does anyone know why Ford didn't put the axle code on a lot of 2000 models. My 2000 doesn't have a code just like the one in the picture, I have looked at the door stickers on a couple of other 2000 models and the axle code was blank on those as well.
The fella selling the Truck (above red photo - Manufactured 03/00) sent me a picture of the serial number today - but it's only a "partial".
It appears that the first digit ("1") was torn off, so it would be: 14967.....
According to the numbers posted, that looks like it should be forged rods.
Anybody got any thoughts?
......The other guy - selling the Truck with the Blue background (Manufactured 10/99) is going to try to get me a shot of the serial number of that Truck - also Model Year 2000.

By date of manufacture, both should have forged rods.
Okay, guys. The search continues - going quite well.
I have determined that I definitely want forged rods, and have come upon some nicer lower mileage F350's from 1999. 2000. 2001.
I had copied down and saved that list of serial numbers with forged rods, and have been checking it against trucks that I've been looking at.
Here's one that sorta doesn't make sense - considering what I've seen so far. Maybe somebody can explain it.
Here's the sticker on the door - Date of Manufacture 06/2000.
Here's a shot of the Serial Number:
I had the gentleman look at it closely, and said as much as he could read, it was: 138445.
Once again, here are the Serial Numbers:
So.....it appears that this would be in 1st category, from Start of Production up to 1425746, so these should be forged rods, yes?
That's all fine and good, but it seems odd.
Some of the others had "Date of Manufacture" earlier than this one, but they had LATER NUMBER Serial Numbers.
What's the deal with that?
I could be off base here but I believe that each new year models actually start production near the end of the previous year. Not sure on actual time frame but a late '00 build could actually be an '01 YM truck. The only way to know for sure on the early '01 is to pull the inspection plug near the oil filter and take a look.
