Question on balancing
When I put my motor (351W) together I had to buy a new harmonic balancer and flywheel, I went to Napa and told them year and what motor I had and they didn't have one in stock so I asked did they have any 351W balancers and they had one for a car. Since all 351W had 28oz balance I took it and noticed its overall weight was much less than the one that was on it but I installed it anyway. The motor seems fine and smooth but will I have problems down the road ? And how does that 28oz thing work because the flywheel felt 40 lbs.
When I see 2 different part numbers like you did for the balancer I would like to know why?
Is the weight different between trucks & cars for the same year?
Maybe the weight is the same but how thick they are is different and you would need to run all the acc. for that part?
Say the car one is thin then all the acc. would need to be closer to the block so brackets may be different between the car & truck for the same year.
Just saying as I don't know for sure.
Maybe try and look up the 2 parts on different parts store sites as they each give different information for the parts and you might be able to tell that way?
You may also try posting this in the engine power area for the motor size / model. Maybe the gearheads over there may have the answer? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum9/
