Is there different Flywheel and harmonic balancer weight offsets for the 351w?, I just installed a windsor into my truck, and installed a flywheel out of an 83 Bronco, now, she has a nice viberation coming from the engine, oh yeah, and the engine is early-mid 70's so I'm wondering if there is different weight/offsets fit these engines?
I hope not, I got the flywheel from a wrecking yard, they said that it was from a windsor, now.... the ultimate question, can I change the harmonic then if it is the wrong one, to the 50 oz weight, and make it work, or do I have to change the flywheel again, I just installed this engine yesterday, and I guess this time I'll have to pull the transmission his time around if I have to
but.... if I have a 50 oz flywheel, can I put a 50 oz harmonic balancer on the help it, or should I go and pull the trans and replace the flywheel with the proper one, I would like to go the first route, because I don't have to drop the trans.
you must match the flywheel and harmonic balancer to the imbalance of the crankshaft. If you have a 351w the imbalance of the crankshaft is 28oz. A 50oz flywheel & 50oz balancer will not balance a 28oz imbalance crankshaft. If you run the out of balance condition for long it will destroy your bearings.
I picked my flywheel up for $40 at the local wreckers, I'm trying napa to see what they cost, I in some ways would like to go a new one, but... if I can find one for cheaper at a wreckers, then I'll go that route, which right now is like finding a needle in a haystack up here in Alberta
another thing, I checked the casting #'s on both the Flywheel and the Harmonic Balancer, wiht Ford, the harmonic fits a 81-83 Ford 351w, and the Flywheel, well you guessed it, fits a 81-83 302, hmmm me thinks that, that might be my problem right there
