I couldn't find this in the search.... I was reading in the f150 section how One can add remote start to an '11 and newer truck with Forscan and new keys. Is this possible on my '13 PSD? Sounds like the half tons already have the capability built in, just needs to be enabled and the remote start button on the key. Thanks.
I did so on my 2012 F-350 6.2, bought the module and a new key from a Ford dealer on Ebay for I think a hundred of may a buck fifty and used Forscan to enable it, all very easy. Just looked up the part on my Ebay account, here you go: (assuming links are allowed)

You need the new key(s) cut, the antenna, the antenna cable extension (optional, allows a bit longer range), and then everything programmed.
The system would work without the antenna but would be EXTREMELY short range, like standing right next to the truck. Useful for troubleshooting or proof of concept, but not much else. Without the extension cable, the antenna is placed under the dash and you can expect 25-100' range. With the extension cable, the antenna gets placed much higher in the cabin and you can expect 100-300' of range.
Good point regarding the hood switch. Pretty much anything except stripped down model is going to have it though.
Since you have to use Forscan to enable the remote start function, you automatically have the capability of re-programming the PATS system from scratch thus negating the requirement to have two pre-existing programmed keys.
Looking at this kit, I think the Ford remote start kit is a lot simpler to install. The Ford is plug and play with only ONE WIRE HARNESS to hook up. The plug for the hood switch is there if one needs to add it. No drilling to add hood switch nor wires to run through the firewall.
With FORScan, you can program (turn on) the remote start and new keys if you only have one. With the kit you are suggesting, it indicates one needs factory remote rntry fobs, one must acquire remote entry fobs for the door locks to activate the remote start.
