activating remote start?

2017 F150, 3.5 NA Sport package.

Seems I've read that the remote start is already installed in comp, just needs a key and to be activated.

Is this accurate?

You need Forscan or a dealer to activate it. You need a key with remote start and it needs to be programmed which you can do yourself if you have two keys. The range will be subpar though without getting an antenna.

So just go to a dealer, get the key and the scan?

No this is not accurate 09-14 trucks was that simple. 15 up you need to either buy the kit from ford or another brand. Trust me I bought 2 keys and lost 200 plus the cost of installing the ford system.

What kind of antenna would one use to extend the starter range, where do you connect it and what kind of improvement can be expected?

I went with the ford model I believe it cost me around 400. Not sure about the specifics I'm sure it's in the website however I can't tell you the range is ridiculous. Starts as far as I can see the truck. The only thing I thought would drive me nuts is it's a separate fob, however it's really no big deal. It's small never gets in the way.

I'd rather have a separate fob than the chunky switchblade key thing I have. When the flip out part finally breaks, that's what I'll do.

You are actually somewhat right. Ford changed the frequency between the trucks without remote start and those with. So yes, your easiest method is to go aftermarket or get the Ford kit. '11-'14 trucks can be easily activated with forscan and a key. '09-'10 trucks use a GEM module so you would be best served with an aftermarket unit or the Ford unit.

It's as simple as this: 2014 2015 2016 2017 Ford F-150 Fusion Edge Remote Start System PLUG and PLAY Kit | eBay
Factory key fob and great range for around $100. Put mine in a couple of weeks ago and it works great.

Very interesting thanks for the link.

Dumb question but how does it work with the factory fob?

You just hit the lock button three times and then it starts. The only drawback is that means your horn beeps twice. I don't care, but it bothers some people. They make a kit that stops the horn honk, but I couldn't see paying for it.

I believe you can silence the horn honk with forscan.
