Hi, so on my stock crew cab 02 f150. And most other f150 of this gen we have torsion bars. They are not bad, and are quite durable. All in all they work great in every aspect. Where they lack is when you try to adjust them up. There are many I'll effects of this. Yes some are easy to fix and some are easy to live with. Some are even free.
what about swapping the torsion bar out for a set of struts. Coil overs would be a great a option and probalpr done on a little more extreme rigs. I really just want to lift the truck as far as I can before I need a diff drop.
So if I got a set of struts off say an 05 f150 I could simply replace the shock with it. And yes the upper part I would need to make a "basket" so it bolts on to.
I know this is reinventing the wheel. And I'm sure other ppl thought of this. I did search a lot on this. And found nothing . Does anyone have more or less info on this as it could be done fairly cheap and be a good suspention upgrade. Thanks for your time.
Also a after market upper control arm is much skinnier than a stock one so would help a lot with clearance
Yep that would not to be hard. And also it would be easier if the strut was centered on lower control arm. But has this been done, or even worth the time and effort. I just see this as a big upgrade over torsion bars.
On a side note I can find a part for a high shock tower. But any clue on what year or middle would have a strut tower or would this part have to be fabercated???
I don't know of anyone that has done it, but if it were me I'd leave the torsion bars in place but back the adjusters off all the way, just to maintain the lower control arm pivot point.
I am really looking for a way to level it with out losing ride quality, and be able to align it. I am not a fan of torsion bars but I also just want to get some info and other options of it.

Removing the torsion bars is not an upgrade. You can level, lower, or raise the front end with the present cam setup.
The only draw back is going TOO HIGH and putting the axle shaft in a bind.

Well since these trucks are darn near perfectly level from the factory a small 1" torsion key will get you "level". And a proper key wont affect ride quality or front end alignment at all.
only time you have a problem is with these ebay knockoffs selling 3" keys
