Check the temperature of the coolant where the upper hose comes out of the engine with a laser thermometer. If the temperature there doesn't rise with the gauge then the coolant temperature sensor is no good.

May have an air pocket in the cooling system. Exhaust leaking from the cylinder from a bad head gasket could be your culprit. Coolant can be checked for carbon. Good luck.

That tends to happen when people post with phones or tablets.

Two conditions.
1 Overheating.
2 Just the temperature gauge causing notice.
.
If overheating then goes back to normal, there is air in the system.
If no overheating, it's a sensor issue.
Determine which it is and take actions to clear it.
