2006 f250 super duty crew cab xlt 5.4l fx4. I'm at my wit's end I've done just about everything, huge stutter makes my truck sound like a deisel, I've been looking for months and have just thrown parts at this, it stutters on deceleration, has plenty of ***** and will burn rubber when taking off, but it sounds like the fly wheel cracked. Only does it after going ***** to the walls on the high way, or when I cruise around town for awhile. Goes away if I give it gas, I've owned since new, has had in the last 1000 miles, all oem from the dealership, timing chain, sprockets, cam phasers, timing tracks, plugs, cops, valve covers 2 engine flushes, head ported and polished, vct selonoids, oil, filters, charcoal filter, rear diff rebuild, gears and fluids, water pump, cam tensioners, and it still does it, ran multiple tests no misfires, fuel injectors are all replaced in the last 5k fuel filter and fuel rails have been replaced in the last 5k. I'm going broke, and I'd hate to get rid of ol blue but she's taking me worse than the ex wife has. SOMEBODY HELP!!!!! 129k miles. I've taken to two dealerships and they are at a loss for words
Need more info.. What is a stutter? Only on decel? runs good otherwise?
Is it like a vibration or noise?
Typically a stutter,,, the definition mechanically would be a missing cylinder. How can that happen on decel? or is it just noise?
Vibration// racket etc transfer case.but in 4wd.....ujoints to rear shaft on decel..can make a racket....
Usually, when you say a 3V 5.4L engine " sounds like a diesel" you would first be directed to check out the cam phasers. That is a classic symptom of a failing phaser.
There is a video on YouTube by FordTechMakuloco warning against the use of aftermarket phasers. He was seeing a lot of trucks with new phasers that were junk.
I think I would be forcing whoever did all that work in the last 1000 miles for you to take this thing back and fix what they screwed up. From you thread, it sounds like this issue showed up after the work was done.
Im with the Senior Master Sergent here Just because its new doesn't mean its good or installed correctly. Cam phasers that is. Are you having the OBD read with a Ford OBD reader? The generic OBDs can miss certain pending codes same goes for the TCM (trans brain).
If you didnt have the noise along with the shudder Id point you to the 5R110W torque converter or driveline...or slip joint perhaps. The converters have been known to come apart and rattle and shudder before sending metal chunks at the trans. The driveshaft slip joint problem (lack of)grease) appears on stop and goes.
Many times a shudder it thought to be mechanical when in fact it turns out to be ignition. How are all of the engine grounds? A bad ground can wreak havoc on modern electronics.
