I`ve never had a problem with the factory navigation leading me in the wrong direction but keep this in mind.
The maps in the factory navigation system date back to 2015 and they are not updated as often like our cell phones.
Also, map updates for the factory navigation system are not controlled by Ford and when they become available, we have to pay for them....... $149.00.
It's not that it leads you in the wrong direction. It's actually having it find the place, address, whatever, and entering it in so it can begin navigation is the problem. 1% success rate finding things by their address or name. For instance, I'm traveling, and have it look up "grocery store" or "post office", it can tell me all about the ones that are 20 miles away, (even after I sort by distance) but what about the ones that are just a couple miles from me? Stupid useless AF if you don't already know where you're going.
I use the OEM NAV witch is in my opinion way better looking and text is way more easy to read. Also I love to have it on my screen behind the steering wheel. The downside is lack of traffic info. That is why I let Waze run In the background with no destination set. Waze will warn me if there is something ahead. This has been working great for me. Also I stay wireless with my phone
WAZE ON SYNC3 works with Apple not Android. I tried to do it with the USB cable and could get the truck to recognize the Waze app on my phone. My phone is a Samsung S8. Thanks for the response.

Yes Waze work with Android , make sure to use your original phone cable.

Hmmmmm, well, all I can go by is what I`ve experienced and I`ve never had the problems that you mentioned but, in my previous posting, I did say the maps in the factory navigation are not updated very often so perhaps this is why you`re having problms.
Almost 100% of the time I know where I`m going but, on the rare occasions when I use the factory navigation and I`ve done what you mentioned was a problem for you, the system worked perfectly for me.
You're talking to a guy who ran an aftermarket nav unit for 12 years. I know all about outdated maps and paying for upgrades.
So far, the Ford Nav hasn't really lead me wrong either, but when I'm towing the fiver, I back it up with Co-Pilot RV on my phone, if the two disagree then I stop to consider their respective suggestions, and usually defer to the Co-Pilot despite nothing on the Ford Nav indicating a bad path. I just wish Co-Pilot would update to be CarPlay compatible, now that Apple supports that option, so I could run it in the dash vs having the wife constantly checking the phone when I don't hear the same audible directions from both.
LOL.....I hear you man.
It`s nice to have a backup or options.
I like to run the factory navigation and Apple Maps or Google maps at the same time to see how close they are and surprisingly, all three are neck and neck with each other.

Do you mind explaining the process? I go into applink with android auto disabled and search for apps and it doesn't find it. if I enable android auto (which sucks) I get waze but without traffic, crashes and the rest.
My daughter's Iphone connected without carplay detects waze as an app in applink.
2018 F-150 Sport 3.5EB, 8" Sync 3
I'm trying to figure out apps on the sync3. I have android auto, pandora, Ford pass. I've tried to look into adding more apps through AppLink based on Fords instructions but it comes up with nothing everytime. With an android phone it just say to be connected with bluetooth, and it will detect any open compatible apps. Has Pandora is it so far.
I also read on Fords site about Alexa-Waze being available as a sync app. I'm trying to figure out what apps I can have on the Sync without being plugged into USB and how.

the only point of compatible apps is to export the display info to the sync screen while the app runs on the phone.. waze, google maps work there, as does waze and Apple nav..
but ONLY when you are wire connected.. the USB channel is not fast enough to support live video
supposedly there is a native alexa app on sync3, but never seen it.. i have a plug in alexa device (pre alexa-auto)
i also haven't found iit very successful at picking up already running phone apps.. and redirecting the ui to the sync2 screen (as the ui changes shape and features)

Did you figure it out?
I figured out that what apps can be used in AppLink, untethered, but it depends on whether you have iOS or Android. iOS have more available. Check out the link h20Camper posted above.
