Low compression or something else?

My buddy did the same stuff to a BMW that was for sale, the coolant temp sensor was disconnected...on this model with the CTS disconnected the engine will not start. I told him that, he plugged it in. Car started, price went up $1000. I told him to just take it as an 'in-op'
