And, as I have an Android head unit, I picked up this TPMS kit from Amazon. It has the internal sensors that are said to have about 5 year battery life.
I had to send this one back. I could not get 1 of the 4 sensors to wake up. So I ordered
and upon arrival, I plugged the receiver into my Android Head Unit and immediately saw all 4 sensors. I had my new tires installed today (the MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S), I had to install the sensors myself but the tire guy was very accommodating handing me the rims outside the restricted area. I pulled out of the tire bay and 3 of the 4 sensors were reporting pressure, the Android TPMS app was beeping a warning that one tire was low. As soon as I pulled onto the road the beeping stopped and the app showed all 4 tires temp and pressure. I'm happy!

Here is what the Android HU looks like. There is a TPMS icon on the top bar to indicate its running. It will put a red bar across the screen and alarm when out of spec. The app screen shows the status of the 4 tires.
I’ve been running the 285-75/16 Wild Country XTX Sport ATs load E for about 10k now and am impressed. For $185 per tire they are a budget buy and have been holding up extremely well both on dry pavement and just this weekend in 4hi uphill in some 8” deep snow in the Yosemite Valley. No issues and great traction at 70psi.
So after a bunch more re search and reading reviews. I have come down to the Cooper AT3 which gets lots of love. And the yokahoma geolander at g015. Most of the geolander reviews I found were on lighter SUVs. Any one try them on the 3/4ton + truck?
Haven’t tried either of those on the Ex, but both look like a decent mid-tier tire that will serve you well for 30-40k miles. If that’s not long enough, you’ll need to move up to a more expensive tire.
I've run Cooper at3 on several trucks and suvs with good success . They don't wear the longest but I also do a lot of dirt road driving. On my old grand Cherokee I got about 35k out of both sets. I was happy when the excursion I bought a month ago came with them.
