Battery Cables

84 F800 with 10.4L engine. Is there a part number for the battery cables? Do they come terminals pressed in? Or do i just buy the cable and cut to length? My cables have corrosion on the inside strands and are hit an miss to getting the truck to turn over

There is no original cables available. I suggest ordering online or from a local heavy duty shop. Buy the 2/0 battery cable in bulk and get some 3m glue line heat shrink and sledge or solder terminals. Also get a roll of abrasion jacket.

Good advice above ^^, but for diesel apps we always used the larger 2/0 wire.
My favorite is 2/0 welding lead, has finer strands and higher amp rating.

10.4L would be a Cat V8 636 cid diesel. I'd suggest going to NAPA, there's a gazillion different Ford battery cables listed and I doubt that anyone has any NOS

Takes a lot of amps to crank a diesel engine of any size.
The L8000 trucks at the local mill still have the original 2/0 cables that we put new ends on, they have 10.4 L Cat 3208 engines like the OP has.
My 93 F-800 has 2/0 cables to crank the 8.3 Cummins.
Diesel powered F series and many L series had the batteries located in boxes behind the cab several feet away from the starter, this makes it necessary to use larger cables to carry the current needed to crank a diesel.
Several of the larger 14-15L engine trucks I've owned and worked on had dual 2/0 cables going to the starter.
As ND stated theres lots of different cables used on these trucks depending on engine size and battery box location, LN model has shortest hood with engine setting back under the cab, equally equipped L model with longer hold and engine setting farther forward needs longer cables, larger fuel tanks moves the battery box farther back, Cat 3208 has starter on right side, 8.3 Cummins has the starter on the left side, battery box or boxes mounted on ether side of the frame or one on each side, ect, ect.
So many different configurations requiring different battery cable it would be near impossible to have the correct factory made cable, best to make your own.
I've been messing with trucks for over 40 years and have never went to the dealer for original battery cables.

5/8, 11/16 or maybe 3/4.
I know it's 3/4 on the larger engines

Edit, was thinking nut size, bolt size would be 3/8, 7/16 or 1/2

3/8 was the biggest they offered in a 2/0 cable. I can route it out if the starter post is bigger.

Probably better check them as the starter battery studs are probably 1/2" thread size.
