Wonder why Ford doesn't have them as an options, since the thing has cameras around the entire truck already. Would be nice if they would full time record while the power is on, and motion/proximity sense when it's parked. Would be an awesome addition to their already great tech features.

I predict within the next 5 years or when a manufacturer installs one, dash cams will be standard/mandated equipment on all new vehicles per government regulations.
All it`s going to take is one manufacturer having such a system as standard or optional equipment in a vehicle and then everyone else will follow.
With that being said, I`d say either VW or Tesla will be the first to do it.
With the trailer tow camera system in place incident reconstruction will be remarkable...all they need to do is lock out the screen to make it workable...
what do you look for for parking with interior view too.. 3 cam?
parking, hit in the side, with no camera doesn't help much
someone break in, no internal camera, doesn't help much..
wrecked my 2012 in august... wish I had a dashcam to see what really happened..
Well it's just a $60 camera. It's not a security system. I'd rather have 1 camera running covering the front end than zero cameras. Will it catch someone hitting my side? Maybe. I guess it depends if the car hitting me ever gets their plate within view of the camera. Will it catch someone breaking in to the truck? probably not. Hopefully the Ford security system will deter potential thieves. I'm working on adding another for the rear window to gain more coverage and have footage if I ever get rear ended.

i wasn't criticizing the specific dashcam.. I was asking the group about how to solve the problem.
I installed a Thinkware F770 in my 2017 F-250 soon after I bought it. My previous vehicle,a 2102 F-150 FX4 was totaled, so I wanted visual proof the next time, should it happen. I've had 3 close calls in the last year due to other drivers either being distracted, or flat out running red lights. It works great, has Wi-Fi download capability with very good day and night video quality. The F-770 I bought has a front and rear camera. The rear is nice because it has a tiny, dim blue LED that can be seen by drivers behind you, hopefully to let them know you're "watching".
The cameras are so easy to install, that my son now has one and I bought a second for my wife's car. I wanted something more or less hidden and did not need a display hanging out for all to see. n my research, it came down to 2 brands, BlackVue and Thinkware. From there is was just camera style.
I spent much time researching and went with Garmin 55. Absolutely flawless in every way, just like all their other line of products, great company with superior products.
I saw that you posted multiple places that you have a Garmin 55. That is the model I bought, but I don't like the fact that it only comes with a cigarette socket adapter. Do you still plug yours in every time you get in the truck? I looked at getting the additional wire, but I've heard that can also drain the battery. What setup did you go with?

Take a look at the Vicovation Power Plus. You can easily program it to turn off after a set voltage, duration, temperature. I've got one wired into my Blackvue.
