I still don`t understand why Sony hasn`t jumped into the dash cam market. I saw a guy on Youtube using a Sony 4K action cam, which is very small for his dash cam. The recording and image quality of the Sony was better than any dash cam on the market.
Any of you with the BlackVue, is your cloud service actually working? I gather it needs to be connected to a hotspot (which sort of defeats the purpose 90% of the time) but I never get any uploads to the cloud (0/5GB saved) even when connected to a strong wifi signal. I have a 900S 1ch and the video seems to be pretty good if I connect to the device via the Blackvue Wi-Fi, but my cloud is empty....
Besides all the good advice already given I've found that getting a unit with the lowest visual profile is the wisest way to go just so your not advertising your camera or vehicle to be broken into. At least with my Rexing V1 it's so small and hidden under the rear view mirror that literally no one know's it's even there. Even people sitting in the passenger seat don't notice it other then the small beep it gives out when turning on.
Also, as for ease of gaining access to playing back the video's, in the nearly two years of having camera's I've only needed to pop out the SD card a few times and that was only because of interesting things I've encountered on the road. No accident's luckily, just a few close call's including almost hitting a bear.
I got a couple dash cams free, just to offer a review. They both work really well for the prices they sell at.
The Pruveeo D700 and D700-Plus. They are touchscreen rearview mirrors that just attach to your stock mirror. It comes with a second camera, I use it as a forward facing camera and I hooked up the trigger wire to an upfitter so I can switch the front view on any time while driving or parking, etc. They have worked well for about a year now with no issues. Not bad at all for $60 or $99. The DVR camera is a 1080P camera that works well in daylight or night. You just pop a micro sd card in and it will take care of the recording. It has an internal battery so it will record for a while after you turn the truck off as well. I'm torn on which one I like better, I think I like the mirror better on the D700, but the D700-Plus has a better display/touchscreen on it. Took me a week or so to get used to it, but they are great cheap insurance. I've already caught two accidents and a car catching on fire, ha. One lady gave me $100 for my SD card so she could use it in evidence. I offered it for free, but she wouldn't take it. Whatever you choose, I don't think you can go wrong. Its a super easy way to cover your ***, I dont think I'll ever not have one now.
Completely agree. It's one of those things that once you buy one you'll always want one for your vehicle. I think many of us have wondered about what we'd do if we had a video clip which was good evidence for someone. For the most part if it was a normal, average Joe I'd offer to email them the file for free. I'm assuming if you actually video recorded a more serious accident the insurance companies would gladly pay for a copy. No different then selling the local newspaper a photo which is news worthy I guess.
What are available mounting options for some of these cameras? I have the Builtright dash AMPS mount https://www.builtrightind.com/produc...015-ford-f-150
in my F350 so wonder if an AMPS style ball mount might be a good option for the camera..

I agree it’s very important to keep it low profile also WiFi is a must so you don’t have to pull the memory card to view an incident. I’ve caught someone tagging up my truck, several traffic incidents, a hit and run. This is just another insurance policy and added security measure
You can barely see it under the rear view from outside. Nobody ever notices it when they ride with me.

I never thought of it, but that's definitely a bonus of the mirror mounted ones, you have a 7-8" screen in the mirror, so you dont have to mess with Wifi or taking the card out if you need to view something. Just tap play and watch the video right there on the mirror.
