Noisy/Bad Injectors
So, I bought my 2017 S.D. December of 2017. Two months after purchasing I took a ski trip with my Daughter to Vermont. During the whole drive I kept hearing "rattling and tapping" from the engine compartment- increasing noise as engine speed increased. ??!! Very annoying. Turned out the dealership discovered two faulty fuel injectors. Only had 1,700 miles on engine at the time. Since then it's been fine. Just mentioning this so in the event somebody else has heard "rattling noises" from the engine this might help them out in getting it diagnosed/fixed.

Did you have a check engine light or excessive regens? Did just the noise cause you to bring it in to be looked at? Did they ask you about running out of fuel or water in the fuel? Tell me more. Tell me more. lol sorry about the excessive questions.

18CCLBKR- Questions are good. No check engine light came on- simply the noise that caught my attention. Not normal to hear that much tapping/ticking. I never ran out of fuel and always keep tank above 1/4 fill. The volume of noise seemed to increase as the engine warmed up but you could hear it over the radio (low volume lol) and with all windows closed. If you have it you'll know- it's not the "typical light ticking sound" of a valve train. At first I thought it was from the fan or something flapping in the fan as it would increase in speed and volume with engine rpm. Sometimes it was hard to hear and when I initially took it into dealership - no noise. ?!?! Always the case, but service writer agreed to keep overnight so manager could drive home and sure enough he heard it then. Hope this helps
