I have a 2004 FX4
Whenever its running at idle it makes a lot of ping and tick sounds not very healthy sounding at all when i went to my dealership and had the maintenance 3 package done I asked them to check it out they di and they said it was fuel injector's noise does this make sense ? and if so what can i do about it is there a conditioner to silence them ?
This is normal fuel inj. will make a tick sound everytime they operate but you should not hear it unless you are under the hood with the engine running??
I've always said that if the injectors are the loudest thing you hear on your engine, be happy. They sound just like clicking lifters on some engines. Even on a Cherokee I recently sold with the 4.0L in-line six, the injectors were still the only noise (106K). I like it - kind of like a Swiss watch ticking.

I bet that is what I was hearing on one I had. Thought it was lifter noise. It did not do it all time just on occasion. I could slightly rev the engine and it would normally quit in a short time.
I complained about the same issue upon delivery of my truck last March. The salesman said to ride past the sevice dept on my way out. The canned, 2 second answer I got was "injector tick, normal for all 5.4 L motors from 2003 on". I find this screwy. My buddy has an '03 SCrew without this niose. It almost sounds like an exhaust leak at idle. I cannot hear it while running, but it is very noticeable at idle. Even now with 15K on the truck, same noise. It is irritating from a 40K truck. If anyone gets a better answer please post up.

Not really since the 5.4 in 04 was redesigned different heads, aluminum heads, 3V design different intake manifolds! Overhead variable timing cam! Not sure you can compare an 03 with anything past 04!
Raise the hood om any 5.4 3V equiped truck and you'll hear the same thing. Each injector makes a noise like a "tick" when it opens and there are eight of them in there.
Take a1x1 about 2 ft long wood stock..place one end to ear the other end to injectors.. be carefull.of fan!! the sound should be the same..if not take it to dealer..
