Ticking Noise

My truck has had a ticking noise since I bought it new and I've had it back to the dealer a number of times to get it fixed...no luck. Yesterday, the bracket was installed on the HPOP hose to prevent movement (I don't remeber the Ford TSP number). The noise is still there.

The service rep said he has had several with the same noise and the Ford tech said it's pulsing injector noise. I told the service rep they should be able to determine which injector it is and replace it, but he said the Ford tech said it's not an abnormal condition and doesn't hurt anything.

The noise can be heard from inside the cab with the engine idling, when accelerating, and when cruising at a constant speed. Has anyone else had this? Thanks.

Does the ticking sound speed up and/or slow down with engine RPM or vehicle speed?
Does it get louder under certain conditions?

It gets more rapid as speed increases and is pretty. It's less noticable at idle and most noticable on hard acceleration, but it is always there.

are you using any type of fuel booster? Centane booster? I had a ticking noise then stopped using attitives, ran my tank until almost empty, put fresh fuel in with no attitive and no more ticking!

I would stop using it. I bet the noise decreases or goes away. With the new ULSD I don't plan on running any attitives anymore. So far, truck runs perfectly without. Can't hurt to give it a try!!

Just my opinion but, I doubt the fuel additive is the problem since the vehicle has been in a number of times since new....apparently prior to the ULSD introduction.

Might try this:

Metal Tapping Noise from Rear of Engine:
Excursions built after 1-10-05 and 2005/06 F-SuperDuty may have a metal tapping noise from the rear of the engine on decel or light acceleration, or under loads when the high oil pressure is at higher levels. This may be due to a damaged/improperly fitting HP oil pump output quick connect fitting. To diagnose, you will need a scan tool with active command capability. Command the IRP duty cycle to 45% and listen at the high pressure oil pump cover with a stethescope as the engine speed is increased to 2800 RPM. If the noise is louder on the pump cover than on other parts of the engine, the pump cover will need to come off to inspect and replace the fitting. Broadcast Message 5511.

The HPOP has been replaced and the fitting installed, so that's ruled out. Thank you.

These injectors are really sensity to water, I'd drain the upper and lower filter
just in case.

Do you drive around with your head towards the grab handle trying to listen to that ticking noise? Doesn't bug the crap out of you? Wishing everytime you get in it, the noise may go away??

Isn't that where that noise seems to be coming from? resignating up the column into the cab? Before you look at another truck, run your truck to empty and do not put in any type of attitive for a few tank fulls and see what happens!!! My 05 had that same ticking/tapping noise! No more attitives, No more ticking noise.

I will be anxiously awaiting your reply in a few weeks stating that the noise is gone!!!

You've described it accurately, but the noise has been there since I got the truck and I didn't use an additive the first several tanks. I try to be open-minded, so I'll try what you suggested and see what happens. Just curious, did you try a different additive to see if the noise returned? Thanks.

I was so happy to get rid of the noise I never tried any other type of attitives, and don't plan on it. That noise drove me nuts!
